Mr. Schütz, 82 years old, a man with a lifelong passion for cars, opens the door to his garage and enters a world that for him is more than just vehicles.
It is memories, friendships and a piece of his history.
“I’m not really that interested in cars unless it’s the MG,” he admits. However, his eyes light up when he talks about this special car.
An MG that has been with him for 35 years, a car that is far more than just a means of transportation.
The sale of the MG is imminent, not only because he is 82, but also for health reasons, especially his knee. Nevertheless, this is not an easy decision.
“If I have to sell the car, I’m telling you, it will be a tragedy,” he emphasizes thoughtfully.
The MG is no ordinary car. No power steering, precise gear changes, a tight clutch and brakes without a brake booster make it a challenge for any driver.
“Not just anyone can drive this car,” explains Mr. Schütz with a touch of pride. It requires strength and skill, especially when driving slowly and taking tight bends.
His fascination with cars began with a Renault Dauphine in 1964, followed by an unremarkable purchase that changed his life.
But he only discovered his true love of cars in 1988, when his wife at the time wanted a divorce. During this difficult time, he met a colleague who became not only his working partner but also his mentor.
The connection deepened when they restored a run-down MG together.
The restoration of the MG not only marked a new beginning for the car, but also for Mr. Schütz himself. In the midst of his divorce, he not only found a reliable companion on four wheels, but also a family in his friend and his friend’s relatives.
The relationship with his MG is unique for Mr. Schütz. It is not just a car, it is his friend, a symbol of solidarity and a preserved piece of his history.
Even in financially difficult times, he would never sell the MG, a connection that goes deeper than the material itself.
The memories of the restored hours with his friend and the trips together with his daughter remain vivid. The MG is not just a vehicle, it is part of the family.
Mr. Schütz remembers a time when he carried a small revolver in his trouser pocket to protect his beloved car. Stories like this testify to the passion and unique relationship he has with his MG.
For Mr. Schütz, driving the MG is not just about getting around, it is an experience. The sound of the engine and the reactions of people on the road are priceless elements of this experience.
People stop, clap and admire the car, and Mr. Schütz smiles proudly at the attention.
His eyes reflect his love for his MG, a love that shines not only on the road, but in every facet of his life.
